Aztec and Medieval zone sets for the relaunched show. We hand-carved the Mayan stonework in foam, moulded it for the repeats, and finished it on stage at The Bottleyard.
A cliff and two cave sets, the basalt columns modelled on Fingal’s Cave and the Giant’s Causeway. Masters sculpted in polystyrene, moulded in silicone, sprayed onto a steel and timber frame at Leavesden.

Most pieces are built in Houdini and our own tools before anything is cut or printed. The parametric model is the build instruction.
The same model doubles as a usable digital asset. We 3D-print, CNC, mould and spray it into the real object.

Armordillo pioneered sprayed-polyurethane fabrication in film. It started with 650 suits of armour for Ridley Scott’s Gladiator.
Rod Vass founded the studio with Michaela Elliott-Vass. He trained in fine art, worked as an archaeological artist, then spent years as a designer and illustrator in London and New York.
Today it runs on a freelance team of specialist makers and a computational design pipeline, working from Herefordshire, from film studios, and on location.
Much of the studio's work is private: gallery pieces and commissions made under non-disclosure. That's why the public record runs quiet in places. What's shown here is simply the work we're free to name.
