How we work

Carved foam panels in the workshop
Carved foam panels, moulded for the repeats.
  1. We model it first

Most pieces are built in Houdini and our own tools before anything is cut or printed. The parametric model is the build instruction.

  2. Then we make it

The same model doubles as a usable digital asset. We 3D-print, CNC, mould and spray it into the real object.

  3. And finish it on set

A freelance team of makers assembles, sculpts and finishes the work in the studio or on location, at prop or set scale.

Because the object and its model come from the same place, the digital work carries over to other pipelines, including procedural and projection-led ones.

What we make

Sculpture

Hand and digital sculpture, from small props to monumental pieces.

Armour & weapons

Screen- and stunt-ready replicas from any period.

Caves, rock & environments

Basalt cliffs, caves, tunnels and landscapes at set scale.

Architecture & sets

Large builds, assembled fast on stage or location.

Model making

3D-designed, printed and CNC-cut scale models and miniatures.

SPFX & action props

Breakable, rigged and repeat-take props built for the shot.

Studio

Armordillo pioneered sprayed-polyurethane fabrication in film. It started with 650 suits of armour for Ridley Scott’s Gladiator.

Rod Vass founded the studio with Michaela Elliott-Vass. He trained in fine art, worked as an archaeological artist, then spent years as a designer and illustrator in London and New York.

Today it runs on a freelance team of specialist makers and a computational design pipeline, working from Herefordshire, from film studios, and on location.

Much of the studio's work is private: gallery pieces and commissions made under non-disclosure. That's why the public record runs quiet in places. What's shown here is simply the work we're free to name.
